Hi I’m Paul Johnson – I’m a curious, strategic, tech savvy and hands on product leader with a passion for co-creating highly valued customer experiences for Start-ups, Scale-ups and multinational Corporates.

I’ve worked with over 50 product teams across sectors and industry over the last 25 years.

I know how to turn vision into sharp, customer-led roadmaps, and how to nurture ways of working that motivate and fuel high performing teams to deliver measurable value continuously.

VROOM! is a culmination of this experience to date – offering a battle hardened approach to accelerating outcomes.

My purpose is simple – help digital businesses to accelerate the outcomes they create with the help of VROOM!, whilst pursing my own b2c startup ambitions.

So, why does a divorced dad in his late 40s decide to work for himself and play the startup game again? It’s been 5 years since I transitioned from permanent leadership roles, back into a freelance/portfolio career.

To explain why, we need to go back to 2019. After 8 amazing years living and working abroad, I returned to the UK and took redundancy. The first couple of months were a brilliant summer, reconnecting with mini staycations, friends and family. But soon, I faced the big question: “What next?”

I could see two very different paths appearing in front of me – find a permanent role in one of the areas that interest me, or do something many would find a bit bonkers.

🤪 I chose bonkers.

I did not want to get another permanent role. It’s not that I hate them, or was failing in the roles I did and can do. Quite the opposite in fact. I just felt something was missing and I needed more. More freedom, more meaning, more variety, and more control over how I invest my time.

Plus, I had a familiar itch to scratch – one that’s been with me forever.

❓What’s my itch?

I’ve helped entire industries digitise, startups grow, sme’s scale, and corporates transform. I’ve created £100s of millions in value for businesses. But I’ve done too little under my own steam. I have an itch to create something I can call mine, instead of always saying, “Look at what we did for these guys.”

So with my path decided, the mission became simple: “Build a consulting client base (interim, advisory, fractional), while pursuing my own B2C startups.”

This has let me do the two things I love to do the most:

🫶 Co-create value outcomes with client founders, leaders, and their teams.
🚀 Scratch my startup itch.

👉 1000’s of hours of learning into markets, digital innovation and trends.
👉 14 consulting clients served (interim, advisory, fractional).
👉 18 startup ideas killed off quickly.
👉 4 startup ideas deeply researched.
👉 3 startups defined, designed, and prototyped.
👉 2 startups launched.
👉 1 startup now aiming for monetisation.
